ILP Participation: Lynda Tutorial

Image
For my second ILP, I watched another Lynda tutorial to continue my interest in photography. I watched Introduction to Photography which talks about the basics of a camera such as the types of lens available and how to use those lenses. This experience was even better than the first because I knew how to use the Lynda website. This familiarity allowed me to explore the available options such as the Notebook to make notes during the presentation. I took these photos during a family trip to the beach during Veteran's day weekend.

As a teacher, I will most likely use data collection to gain feedback from my students and Excel for my grade book. I plan on using surveys within my classroom to communicate with my students' parents such as volunteering or party supplies. I will also give my students surveys during class so I can understand how much they are understanding. As a special education teacher, communication is key to whether or not my students are actually excelling or not. I will need them to be honest to me and be able to communicate their ideas to me clearly.  Some topics that I found most interesting from reviewing my classmates' blogs are the adaptive technologies and the first blog when we talked about our experiences with technology. Having an interest in special education makes adaptive technologies extremely interesting to me because I will be using most of those technologies in my classroom. I also really enjoyed the ice breaker post, this was a great way to connect with my fellow cl...

The Flipped Classroom is where the teacher designs a class where the students are in charge of their learning through lectures being homework and the classroom time is spent understanding the concepts. In chapter ten, the phrasing  “sage on the stage” to “guide on the side" to describe the teachers' role inside of the classroom. This is an interesting idea for many teachers because   the traditional role for a teacher is to be in charge but with a flipped classroom design the teacher is less the center of the classroom but an extra resource to the students.  Open education is where classes are offered to the public online which allows anyone to learn topics.  Students are able to learn new material if they choose to and teachers can develop their skills as an educator. The Department of Education has a page explaining Open Education. Open content is where content online is able to be used by anyone allowing teachers to use other's lesson plans and worksh...

Adaptive technologies can be used in the classroom to help support learners who need them. In the classroom, I have seen translator used by foreign students who's first language is not English. I have seen the use of switches and special keyboards in classrooms where the students are physically disabled therefore unable to communicate verbally.  In my classroom, I think the challenges that I will face while using adaptive technologies include understanding what technologies can be useful and which one are distractions for the students. You can use PowerPoint to support student learning at each level of Bloom's Taxonomy: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, create. A lecture on PowerPoint that can be shared with the students allow them to study and refresh their memory whenever necessary. Through multiple slides during the lecture, a teacher is able to present the same information in different ways so every student understands the material. Students can use Power...

My experience using Lynda tutorials have been quite a positive one. I have always been interested in photography because my mother as a hobby. I recently have gotten a camera but I have not had the time to figure out the settings. The tutorial that I watched was titled Photography 101 and was for beginners. This tutorial was very helpful at explaining all the settings on a camera as well as how to change them to fit the picture. The man in the video was repetitive and clear with his instructions so they were easily understandable. Lynda is a very easy website to use with topics and difficulties ranging from beginner to expert so everyone can find the perfect fit for them. I took these photos while taking pictures around campus.

While using Twitter this semester, I have learned that social media can be used to connect the classroom to the world. Some benefits of using Twitter are the connection available between teacher and students, teacher and parents, and students and the world. Twitter has many useful applications such as polling or being able to retweet to share interesting articles. The only issues that I have personally found are remember to tweet twice a week. I use Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest but have never gotten into Twitter. If I was an avid Twitter user then this would not be an issue.  I have learned some new skills from working on the Web Page Design like patience. The websites to create your own websites tend to be finicky so it can be hard and intense to get each picture, text box, and title to show up exactly where you want them to be. If I was to ever use this in my classroom, I would look at every site creator website and try each one to find what is easiest. I star...

I looked at Lincoln High School's website ( https://www.leonschools.net/lincoln ) which teaches grades 9-12.  Many of the teachers had Edmodo websites that require a log in but one teacher website that is public is Mrs. Sapp ( https://sites.google.com/site/mrssappswebsite/home ), who is a math teacher, specifically statistics and algebra 1. She has a welcome paragraph with simple directions on how to use her website with the calendar on the home page. Currently, she is only teaching statistics so there are only pages for statistics class materials. Mrs. Sapp has all of her class material public so students can access it easier and parents can view what is being taught in class.  I envision myself as a teacher using technology to accomplish my professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively by helping to connect my classroom to the rest of the world. As a teacher, I will use social media as a way to connect with the parents to create a more collaborative ...
